What we offer

Our activities focus on removing the walls that traditionally separate the scientific from the social, the technological from the ecological, modern western sophistication from traditional eastern practice. Our aim is to both locally and globally find patterns of connection able to join partners, projects and place for transformation together in new ways.

Seeing Knowing Renewing Workshops

A number of participative community workshops are planned in Devon for autumn 2008. The most basic aim of Seeing, Knowing, Renewing is as follows:

* to see our relationship with nature with new eyes using Goethean science methods.

* to examine the current situation with respect to Carbon through quality speakers in the areas of sustainable forestry, ecology and business leading to information to help participants calculate their own and their community’s carbon footprints and how to minimise their impact.

* to carry out those practical steps, emerging from the previous workshops, in community spaces & woodlands. Outdoor work eg planting edible and medicinal plants will enable participants to renew their commitment to the earth and will benefit their community.

Holistic Centre Advice

There is a globally felt need and evidence of centers for alternative living and learning springing up all over the world. Human beings no longer want to buy into the system that capitalism is enforcedly asking us to live in. We have a choice. We can live in Community in a balanced and holistic way. We will help you design and create communities and centers that will incorporate local values and needs with your own spiritual and day-to-day living requirements.

Building on the experience and knowledge of planning a Holistic Centre In India and the practical experience of being at Schumacher College UK for over 2 years in various capacities – We offer Advisory and consultancy to various centres across the world that are now coming up in response to the world wide need for more holistic ways of living and being.

As part of this consultancy our solutions are arrived at after detailed discussion with highly appropriate and best connections in each field from across the world. This is for helping design and create all aspects of the centre: The physical aspects of the Centre which include: architectural requirements; waste recycling and management; laying out of organic agriculture for self sufficiency in vegetables and food; learning programs;experiential programs that would play a vital role in the long term sustainability of the centre.

Among the sustainability areas looked at are financial, environmental social and spiritual.

* The ethos of the Centre and how it can best meet the needs of the locality that it is based in and also contribute uniquely to this growing movement across the world

* The space for emergence of a platform of creativity and freedom in all that the centre is going to do.

Renewable Energy Projects

Climate change and carbon emission reductions are defining issues but they are shorthand for many global problems: energy and food security, poverty alleviation, pollution, water scarcity, human rights abuses and a host of other impending crises. The Converging World (TCW) is a charity that tackles these multiple issues through an integrated solution.

TCW invests money directly in renewable energy at grid level in developing countries. This produces:

* carbon emission reductions by substituting for fossil fuels in those countries;

* electricity income to install more renewable energy;

* funds for local partnerships in the poorest parts of the world;

* carbon credits to offer to companies in developed areas;

* money, from credits, to fund further emission reductions through community action.

The initial programme is in Tamil Nadu, southern India where TCW is erecting large wind turbines that cost about £1.25 million (GBP). Each turbine will secure a long-term stream of income into the local community through a partnership with an agency called Social Change and Development – approximately £25,000 per year. Each turbine will also, at a minimum, replicate itself financially before the end of its 20-year lifetime. These installations produce carbon credits under the UN Clean Development Mechanism and they meet the Gold Standard criteria. Income in the UK from these credits is around £100,000 per year – again indefinitely. This money goes to educational and community projects for work towards further reductions, restitution and convergence.

  • Clean, renewable energy – through a wind turbine that will prevent up to 70,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere over 20 years and replace itself indefinitely;

  • Transforming local communities overseas – by investing in sustainable development in the poorest communities through development partners such as SCAD a thriving NGO that has been operating for more than 20 years and helps over 350,000 of the most neglected people in Tamil Nadul

  • Cutting emissions at home – by generating high quality carbon credits that fund carbon reduction project in local UK communities.

Micro Level:

Using the same principles above, we are contracting the width of each project to reach the level of local individual villages and communities. Doing this has the added advantage of ensuring ownership of the processes of community development to be in the hands of the communities themselves.

East West Projects

Earthlinks is working with the growing need across the world to connect grassroots level projects.

Traditional Western approaches can often seek solutions in science and through imposed hierarchical structures. Traditional Eastern approaches seek solutions in ancient values represented in community, participative approaches, and shared leadership.

Whatever your area of passion work and interest – Earthlinks facilitates connections, which will help draw upon the best from these two traditions, to provide significant and measurable development benefits to communities on both sides of the globe.

Earthlinks has set up a Charitable Trust that is facilitating links between projects in India and projects in the UK .

We connect innovative projects for mutual benefit. We facilitate cross -cultural exchanges of work, people and ideas, thereby creating a network of empathetic organizations across the globe.
